The Ocean does more than you think

The Ocean does more than you think

Why Earth’s life support system needs your help

We often think of the sea as distant, vast, and untouchable. But it’s deeply connected to our homes, our health, and our future. You literally wouldn't be breathing without it.

Here's 4 critical functions the Ocean provides to support all life on earth

⚪ 1. The Ocean Makes the Air You Breathe

It’s not trees, but plankton — tiny plant-like organisms in the sea — that produce more than 50% of the oxygen on Earth. That means every second breath you take is thanks to the Ocean.

🌡️ 2. The Ocean Regulates Our Climate

The Ocean acts like a massive climate sponge. It has absorbed over 90% of the excess heat caused by global warming and stores around 30% of the world’s carbon emissions. That’s helped buffer the effects of climate change — but it can’t keep absorbing forever.

As Ocean temperatures rise and ecosystems break down, we risk reaching a tipping point where the Ocean’s protective powers start to fade.

🌧️ 3. The Ocean Controls the Water Cycle

No Ocean = no clouds = no rain.
The Ocean drives the entire water cycle, fuelling rainfall, regulating droughts, and shaping weather across the globe. Its currents also redistribute heat from the equator toward the poles, stabilising global temperatures.

When we harm the Ocean, we’re not just hurting marine life — we’re destabilising the systems that grow our crops, hydrate our soils, and balance our seasons.

🐠 4. The Ocean Is Life’s Oldest, Largest Ecosystem

More than 80% of all life on Earth is found in the Ocean.
It’s home to everything from whales and coral reefs to microscopic species we haven’t even discovered yet. Every organism plays a role in regulating the balance of life — and when habitats are lost or polluted, entire food chains unravel.

❌ So What’s the Problem?

Plastic waste, industrial pollution, chemical runoff, carbon emissions, and overfishing are all degrading the Ocean’s health — and with it, its ability to protect us. The more we damage the Ocean, the less resilient it becomes.

💙 Designing with the Ocean in mind

Small changes at home can help protect this life-giving system. We don't claim to be the solution, but we're part of it. If we can reduce or eliminate entirely the impact we make when we clean our homes, preventing billions of pieces of plastic and litres of harmful chemicals each year from entering our Ocean, we'll be proud.

Every OceanSaver product is designed with the ocean in mind:

  • Plastic-free packaging — nothing left behind

  • 🧪 No phosphonates, optical brighteners, or sulphate-based surfactants

  • 🌊 OceanProtect™ tech that reduces microplastic fibre release from your laundry

  • 💸 Every product funds marine habitat restoration in the UK
