Why going GREEN is so 2022

Why going GREEN is so 2022

New Year’s resolutions can be dated back to some 4,000 years ago and became a common tradition by the 1700s, but what are they used for? In more recent years, they have become synonymous with diet culture, extreme self-improvement and high expectations.

92% of us don’t see through our resolutions because the pressure and stakes are too high, but what if we’ve been focusing on the wrong resolutions...?

2022 stands to be a really important year when it comes to combating the climate crisis to save our planet and as such, our ocean. If we begin the year with sustainable choices and intentions, we can achieve some serious change.

The great thing about green resolutions is that they’ve likely been on our minds for a while, and making the change has just seemed a little out of reach. But with a fresh year rolling in, there’s no time like the present! The key here is small, achievable, rewarding changes that aren’t too challenging or radical and that create a foundation for the year to come.

For example, shaving a minute off your usual shower time could save as much as 13 litres of water a day. If the whole of the UK made this their resolution, we could save 884 million litres of water each time we shower!

We picked our favourite eco resolutions to get you started on the right foot this year.

  1. Adopt a vegan/vegetarian/plant-based diet as often as you can. A study by Oxford University in 2018 found that taking meat out of your diet could reduce your carbon footprint by 73%. They also found that meatless diet would require about 3.1 billion less hectares of farmland. But if going completely vegan seems too daunting at first, why not start small by participating in Meat Free Mondays or Veganuary? There is no rush to get to the final goal straight away, cutting down meat intake one or two days a week is a great place to start.
  2. Cut single use plastic from your cleaning routine. Sure, we’re biased 😉 but with brands such as ourselves around to help you, this resolution has never been easier. If you’ve been waiting to join the refill revolution and leave plastic in 2021, you’re in the right place. By using our EcoDrops you can have a completely plastic free cleaning routine all through 2022 and beyond.
  3. Start shopping second hand. Choosing to shop sustainably this year is one of the best things you can do for the environment. Let’s face it, the world doesn’t need more clothes! 10% of carbon emissions come from the fashion industry, and with the spotlight on fast fashion and its injustices there has never been more reason to take to your local charity shops. Not only will you save the planet, you’ll also save on money!
